The method includes the steps of: (a) Providing load control terminals at multiple consumer locations in the network, where each location has a consumer load which is active or inactive in drawing electricity from the network, and which is under control of a respective terminal; each load control terminal has an armed mode in which the respective load can be disconnected from the network in response to a power line event, and a disarmed mode in which the load remains connected, (b) Determining a target for consumer loads which can be interrupted in response to a power line event, in accord with a market contract, (c) Receiving data from the load control terminals indicating which of the consumer loads are currently active or inactive, (d) Selecting one or more of the currently active consumer loads which could be interrupted if required to meet the target, and (e) Sending an arm signal to the terminals for the selected loads.
