585904 Disclosed is a computer-implemented method for performing video compression and video streaming of game of interactive application output video. The method includes executing one or more applications or video games. The method also includes receiving packet streams from users and routing the packets to the one or more applications or video games. The packet streams include user control input (406a, 406b). One or more of the applications or video games is operable to compute A/V data in response to the user control input (406a, 406b). The A/V data from the one or more applications or video games is received and low-latency streaming compressed A/V data based on the original A/V data is output. The method further includes assessing the quality of the communication channel with a client (415) of a user to determine whether to use forward error correction (FEC). Based on the assessment, a determination is made of which portions of the video and audio of the low-latency streaming compressed A/V data and user commands (406a, 406b) FEC should be applied to. FEC is then applied based on the determination and the low-latency streaming compressed A/V data is routed to each of the clients (415) over a corresponding communication channel.
