596120 A spline connection apparatus comprises a male member 500A and a female member 600. The male member 500A includes a shoulder portion 532 and a cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion includes an upper surface. The cylindrical portion of the male member extends from the shoulder portion and includes an external spline 599S having a first length. The female member 600 includes a base portion and an upper portion. The upper portion includes a counterbore 631B with an internal spline which has a second length. The internal spline terminates in a counterbore engagement surface. When the male and female members are coupled together, the shoulder portion 532 of the male member 500A engages the upper portion 631B of the female member 600, and the upper surface 535 of the cylindrical portion of the male member 500A engages the counterbore engagement surface 630C of the female member. Since the first and second lengths are equal, the external spline completely intermeshes with the internal spline, and the effective face width of the connection is equal to the first and second length of the splines.
