Authenticating a polymer film by measuring thickness using birefringence effects

Disclosed is a method of authenticating a polymer film. The method is performed by measuring the birefringence of a layer of the film. It is then determined if the film is authentic or otherwise based upon a birefringence measurement obtained in the measuring step.
