A composition for the preservation and / or storage of a fabric, wherein the fabric comprises antigen and nucleic acid, to maintain morphology for histology, wherein the composition is a nonaqueous solution comprising polyethylene glycol (PEG) to 10- 15% and 85-90% methanol; wherein the PEG has a molecular weight less than 600 daltons.
