An electrochemical sensor system and membrane and method thereof for increased accuracy and effective life of electrochemical and enzyme sensors. The method comprises the removal of interfering agents from the membrane by applying a sufficient electrical potential, as well as the restoration of the functional properties of the electrochemical sensor by polymerization of an electropolymerizable monomer omto the polymeric membrane.
