The present invention provides colored pure titaniumor titanium alloy having low susceptibility todiscoloration in an atmospheric environment exhibiting asuperior resistance to discoloration even when thetitanium is used in an environment of harsh acid rainsuch as a roof or wall material and free fromdeterioration of the aesthetic appearance over a longperiod of time, that is, colored pure titanium obtainedby the anodic oxidation method, that is, colored puretitanium or titanium alloy having low susceptibility todiscoloration in an atmospheric environment characterizedby having an average phosphorus content in a range of 40nm from a surface of a titanium oxide layer formed on thetitanium surface of 5.5 atomic% or less and by having anaverage carbon concentration in a range of a depth of 100nm from the titanium surface of 3 to 15 atomic%.
