The present invention relates to a method of facilitating the birth process ofplacental mammals, especially to a method of reducing delays in the birthprocess and, thereby, complications resulting there from that may negativelyaffect the health and wellbeing of the mother and increase the incidence ofstillbirths and/or neonatal mortality. According to the present inventiondelays in parturition that result from maternal and/or uterine exhaustion maybe prevented or reduced by the administration of an effective amount of one ormore psychomotor stimulants to the parturient mammal prior to and/or duringparturition. Said psychomotor stimulant is selected from the group comprisingxanthines and amphetamines.
