The present invention relates to a device for conveying live animals, comprising,particularly in the case of chicks, a chick conveying section in which said chicksare positioned in buckets with their wings spread, and an automatic chick sexingsystem comprising such a conveying device. The conveying device comprises afirst endless bucket conveyor (2) comprising pre-positioning buckets (21)for individually receiving and transporting a live animal, and a second endlessbucket conveyor (6) comprising sorting buckets (61) for individually receivingand transporting a live animal, said first conveyor and said second conveyorbeing so arranged that each live animal pre-positioned in a pre-positioningbucket falls out of said pre-positioning bucket into a sorting bucket positionedunderneath said pre-positioning bucket.
