The invention relates to a sprocket for chain drives, having a rotational axisD and having two groups of pockets (20, 30), which are arranged adjacent to oneanother and offset with respect to one another on the periphery of the sprocket,for chain links which pass the sprocket in an oblique position. Each pocket (20,30) is delimited at the side by a side wall (24; 34) and by an opposing wall (26, 36)and in the peripheral direction by webs (31; 21). In order to be able to producea sprocket for obliquely running-in chain links more easily, and to create a betterforce distribution, according to the invention the side wall and the oppositewall of a pocket form contact surfaces for the chain links, which contact surfacesrun obliquely with respect to the rotational axis D and extend to a base section(25, 35) of the pockets.
