The present application pertains to the problem of known methods for detecting the fill level of a container (10) for transporting and/or storing objects (90), particularly piece goods or bulk materials, with a container bottom (12) and an inner container wall (18), namely that the relative error of the determined number of objects usually increases as the number of objects in the container decreases. For this purpose, it is proposed to estimate the number of objects (90) in the container (10) with the aid of a value of the container volume occupied by the objects (90) or the already emptied container volume, in particular, on the basis of an average object volume of one or a certain number of the objects (90) as long as the container bottom (12) is covered by objects (90) situated in the container (10), and to count the objects (90) in the container (10), in particular, by identifying the individual objects (90) on the container bottom (12) as soon as a certain portion of the container bottom (12) is visible. Consequently, the method delivers a result, the accuracy of which with respect to determining the number of objects situated in the container increases as the number of objects decreases. In addition, a container (10) that is particularly suitable for the proposed methods and a system with a plurality of such containers are proposed.
