PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of oscillation correcting processes without reducing range and spatial resolution, while increasing processing speeds.;SOLUTION: An actual aperture array is divided into verniers 1 and 2 and transmit signals of different waveforms are transmitted from the verniers 1 and 2 at the same time. Waveforms that are separable through a reception process are selected for use as the transmit waveforms. By separating acoustic waves received by the verniers 1 and 2, the number of spatial sampling points available through one ping can be increased. Using this technique, overlap points which are phase-equivalent even during advancement at normal speed are created and oscillation between pings is detected and corrected using an overlap method. As a result, a synthetic aperture sonar of high resolution is provided which can correct oscillation using the overlap method while advancing at normal speed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
