The method involves extracting a reference vector (51) near to a given vector (20) by consultation of correspondence between an input index (29) of the vector (20) in a lookup table (3) and a reference index (31) of the vector (51). The input index corresponds to a set of vectors that are approximated to a vector with its end at center of a region of a multi-dimensional space (2). An independent claim is also included for a frame preparation device.
