OBJECT DETECTION DEVICE FOR A VEHICLE, VEHICLE WITH SUCH AN OBJECT DETECTION DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A RELATIVE POSITIONAL RELATIONSHIP OF STEREO CAMERAS WITH RESPECT TO ONE ANOTHER
An object detection device (24) for a vehicle (2) has a plurality of stereo cameras (3a, 3b, 4, 5, 6) which are each accommodated in a camera housing. A control and communication module has a signal-transmitting connection to the stereo cameras such that a stereo camera pair (3a, 3b; 3b, 4; 3a, 6) which is selected for the detection of an object in the surroundings of the vehicle is combined to form a long-range detection stereo camera module, wherein the detected object data of the two stereo cameras of the long-range detection stereo camera module contribute to a long-range stereo image of the object. The object detection device can additionally have a calibration module which calculates calibration data from captured stereo images of the individual stereo cameras and from captured long-range stereo images of selected stereo camera pairs, which calibration data represent a relative positional relationship of the stereo cameras with respect to one another. A method is also disclosed for determining a relative positional relationship of stereo cameras with respect to one another, said stereo cameras being mounted on and suspended from a vehicle with a mounting and suspension tolerance. This results in an object detection device in which the flexibility of the detection is improved and the detection possibilities are extended without the use of cameras of complex design being required.
