Provided is an optical analysis technique using an optical system of a confocal microscope or multi-photon microscope, with which, in order to measure a sample solution having a low concentration of light-emitting particles, it is possible to increase the number of detected light-emitting particles per unit time by expanding the confocal volume in such a way that an increase in background optical intensity can be suppressed as much as possible. In the optical analysis technique of the present invention, the optical system of the microscope is provided with a divided optical system forming at least two optical system light detection regions in the sample solution. In this way, when the confocal volume capacity is expanded by increasing the number of confocal volumes, it becomes possible to suppress an increase in the background optical intensity to a greater extent than when the confocal volume capacity is expanded by increasing the diameter of a single confocal volume.
