Instant messaging method and system for mobile terminals equipped with a virtual presence server capable of automatically managing an instant messaging session

The system has instant messaging servers (S1, S2) for delivering instant messaging services to a client mobile terminal (TA) and mobile terminals (TB1, TB2, TC1, TD1, TE2, TF2). A virtual presence server (100) is connected to the terminal (TA) and to the servers (S1, S2) such that the information intended for or sent by the terminal (TA) transits by the server (100). The server (100) has control units for automatically controlling an instant messaging session at the place of a user (A). The units are activated when the connection between the terminal (TA) and the server (100) is cut. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatically controlling a session in an instant messaging system for a mobile terminal.
