A method for repairing abradable seals (130) of gas turbine engines includes providing an abradable seal component (130) of a gas turbine engine, the seal component having a structural substrate (131). A preform (150) is used to simultaneously restore the structural substrate (132) and form an abradable layer (132) of the component (130). Separate preforms may be used.
