Disclosed is a heat exchanger at the base of a water heater for a heat pump, comprising a metallic baseplate (1) matching the shape of the base of a water tank; on the baseplate (1), a metallic attachment plate (2) of a shape corresponding thereto is fitted and fixed, wherein at least one of the metallic baseplate (1) and metallic attachment plate (2) has a circuitously protruding rib (5) extending from an inlet (3) to an outlet (4), a flow passage from the inlet (3) to the outlet (4) being formed between an inner surface of the circuitously protruding rib (5) and the corresponding surface of the adjacent plate. The heat exchanger is attached to the base of the water tank by means of pressure welding or a tight fit; therefore, it makes full use of the whole heat exchange area at the base of the water tank, effectively improving the heat exchange effect.
