Disclosed is a passive flying device, in particular for use as a cargo drop system for dropping cargo from aircraft, or as a rescue system for rescue in air emergencies, said device comprising at least two identical wing elements (7) which are interconnected and form a receiving opening. Each wing element (7) has a vertex (13) at a lower end and at an upper end a base (9) lying opposite the vertex, and the wing elements (7) are interconnected by their bases (9) and by sections of a wing edge between their respective vertices and the associated bases to form a self-supporting wing system (1) that can be rotated about a rotational axis (2). The wing elements (7) are formed from a sheet-type material, at least some sections of which are elastic or flexible. The wing elements can be transferred elastically from a closed state, in which the vertices or wing tips (13) are arranged close to one another, into an open state, in which the vertices or wing tips (13) project outwards. In the open state the wing elements (7) produce sufficient lift. The wing system can be produced and assembled simply and cost-effectively and can efficiently reduce the force of impact for cargo that is to be dropped.
