The present invention describes an assay for detection of dengue virus in samples. A primer pair is provided which amplifies a sequence from each of the four serotypes of dengue virus, and a single probe which hybridises at a different temperature to the amplified sequence depending on the serotype. In this way a single set of probes and primer may be used to distinguish between the various serotypes.
