The invention relates to a method for performing distance measurements to localize mobile terminals (M1, M2) in a radio network (1), the method comprising: assigning a time slot (T) for the emission of at least one distance measuring signal (DMS1, DMS2) to at least one mobile terminal (M1, M2) to be localized, and emitting, by those mobile terminals (M1, M2) of the radio network (1) which are served by base stations (BSS1, BSS2, ...) of a localization cluster (LC) susceptible of receiving the at least one distance measuring signal (DMS1, DMS2), only the at least one distance measuring signal (DMS1, DMS2) and no other data traffic during the assigned time slot (T). The invention also relates to a base station (BSS1), to a mobile terminal (M1), and to a radio network (1).
