RFID tag especially for use near conductive objects

An RFID tag 48 comprising an antenna assembly, including:a shielding layer 18 comprising an electromagnetic shielding material having a first side 26 and a second side 28, said shielding layer 18 configured to substantially reduce the magnitude of eddy currents induced in a conductive material by a magnetic field passing through said shielding layer 18; a radio frequency loop antenna 22 with a loop plane located at a distance from said first side 26 of said shielding layer 18; and a spacer 20 comprising a spacer material interposed between said antenna 22 and said shielding layer 18. The RFID tag further comprises an RFID circuit 24 functionally associated with said antenna 22. The tag further comprising a flexible casing 49 substantially containing said antenna 22, said spacer 20 and said shielding layer 18. Said spacer 20 and said shielding layer 18 are not adhered to each other.
