The present invention relates to the field of computer-assisted management of stocks of goods that may be, for example, industrial equipment (machines, buildings) or works of art. Specifically, the invention relates to forming up-to-date inventories and appraisals of stocks of objects such as industrial equipment (machines, buildings) or works of art. The method involves implementing: a computer server (1); a database (2) included in the server (1); a computer network (3); a plurality of terminals (4) enabling users to access one or more inventories contained in the database (2); a means (5) for acquiring data on the objects, on the current and distinct values (V) thereof, and optionally on the structures thereof; and a means (6) for recording the acquired and compared data in the database (2). Said method includes the following steps: (a) acquiring, in particular using the acquisition means (5), data on (i) the objects, (ii) the values (V) thereof, and optionally (iii) the structures of thereof; (b) recording said data in the database (2) in the form of object files corresponding to the inventoried objects, each of said object files being referenced by at least one identifier (Id), said recording being carried out under the supervision of one or more administrators; (c) the users reading and using the database (2) via the network (3) and the terminals (4); and (d) the administrators updating the database (2).
