GABA-PRODUCING CULTURABLE BACTERIA DERIVED FROM THE HUMAN GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT

Isolated bacteria are described that are characterised by being culturable, derived from a human neonatal gastrointestinal tract, and having the ability to produce γ-aminobutyric acid. Also described is the use of the GABA-producing bacteria in the treatment or regulation of cardiovascular function, mood disturbance, anxiety, stress, pain and proliferative disorders.
