The welding torch is a metal inert gas/metal active gas torch, tungsten inert gas torch, plasma type torch or coated electrode type torch. The triaxial accelerometer is integrated or arranged on the torch and on a welding gun, and is attached to the torch or to the welding gun using a fixing ring system. The device further comprises a welding current generator. The signal amplifying unit, signal processing unit, the integrating unit and the calculation unit are arranged in the generator or in an external module of the generator. The signal amplifying unit is designed to amplify and linearize the current signal provided by the triaxial accelerometer. An independent claim is included for a method for tracking a welding arc.
