The present invention relates to an apparatus for breaking a needle of a syringe needle assembly, and a method thereof, wherein the apparatus for breaking a needle provided at a hub of a syringe needle assembly comprises: a main body having an insertion hole for inserting a needle; and gears which are built-in in the main body and comprise a driving gear and a driven gear rotating in an interlocking manner to allow the needle injected through the injection hole to pass through, and the needle passing through between the gears is drawn from the hub to be broken. The gears can be permanently used compared with a conventional smashing part having a sharp blade for smashing, and it is possible to dispose of a large amount of needles since the volume of separated waste is very small. In addition, since a needle is completely removed from a syringe needle assembly, the apparatus is much safer than most conventional apparatuses for separating or removing a syringe needle in which a part of a needle remains. Further, the apparatus for breaking is small and can be manufactured so as to use normal power, a rechargeable battery, or battery, and the like, and thus can be readily installed in a hospital due to a small arrangement space and can be conveniently used at livestock farms due to the convenient portability of the apparatus.
