In accordance with embodiments of the present invention, the list of the preferred PLMNs which is used by the RAN node for distributing subscriber registrations to the respective core network is expanded to also include the MSIN. At least one bit of the MSIN, starting from the most significant bit, is reinterpreted to indicate the CN node. In this way the granularity of the preferred PLMN list is increased and it is thereby possible to steer subscriber registrations to specific MSCs and SGSN's within one CN network operator.
