The invention relates to a regulator for a flyback converter having a transformer with a primary winding and a secondary winding and a switching circuit for controllably delivering energy into the primary winding in response to pulses, the regulator comprising a pulse generator configured to initiate the pulses approximately when current through the secondary winding ceases during various different heavy loads on the flyback converter and to increase at least one off time and at least one period of the pulses and not to initiate the pulses approximately when current through the secondary winding ceases during various different lighter loads on the flyback converter.
