A system for separating smoking and non-smoking areas (1) is provided with: a non-smoking area (8) and a smoking area (9) partitioned by a partition (7) having a passage (10); ventilation elements (11, 12); and a recirculation element (3). The ventilation elements (11, 12) supply air to the non-smoking area (8) from an air supply opening (11), and discharge air in the smoking area (9) from an exhaust vent (12), thus forming a first air flow (F1) that passes through the passage (10) from the non-smoking area (8) toward the smoking area (9). The recirculation element (3) returns the air in the smoking area (9) to the non-smoking area (8), thus forming a second air flow (F2) that passes through the passage (10) from the non-smoking area (8) toward the smoking area (9).
