The present invention addresses the problem of providing a mobile terminal by which any increase in the power consumed during GPS utilization can be suppressed. This mobile terminal includes a means (a positioning processing unit (111)) for utilizing GPS (a GPS communication unit (14) and GPS antenna (15)) to retrieve position information. This mobile terminal includes a detecting means (speed measurement unit (112)) for detecting the speed of the local terminal, and a means (control unit (11)) for determining the number of GPS captures in accordance with the detection result from the detecting means (speed measurement unit (112)).
