The present application relates to an apparatus and a method for producing tin dioxide nanoparticles on the basis of a reaction between tin tetrachloride and water in the vapour phase. The apparatus comprises a tubular reactor with small holes around the circumference thereof, fed with a water vapour stream perpendicular to the stream of tin tetrachloride that flows through the reactor, enhancing reaction kinetics and yield, and allowing the reaction to be performed at lower temperatures than in other synthesis methods.
