The present invention relates to a novel use of starch-graft-polyacrylic acid copolymers or thiolated forms thereof in manufacturing of an extended release vaginal drug carrier system. The invention further relates to novel compounds, namely thiolated starch-graft-polyacrylic acid copolymers useful as a drug carrier system. In particular embodiments the invention provides novel pharmaceutical compositions comprising the aforesaid copolymers for use in estrus synchronization of animals.
