PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Daphne genkwa extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated from the same is provided to effectively enhance Th1 cytokine secretion and to prevent or treat atopic dermatitis. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating atopic dermatitis contains Daphne genkwa extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared from stems, roots, leaves, petals, or buds of Daphne genkwa using water, low carbon number alcohol of C1-C4, or acetone. The pharmaceutical composition also contains a Daphne genkwa fraction as an active ingredient. The fraction is prepared using hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate. The pharmaceutical composition contains a compound of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient.
