PURPOSE: A proton conductor is provided to show a high output at low temperature, and to provide a solid oxide fuel cell with a large size. CONSTITUTION: A proton conductor is manufactured into BaCeO3 which has a perovskite structure. A part of Ce is substituted by Zr and Y. The molar ratio of Zr, Ce, and Y is 0.1-3:6-8:1-3. The proton conductor is Ba(Zr_0.1Ce_0.7Y_0.2)_(3-). The solid oxide fuel cell includes a fuel electrode functional layer, an electrolyte membrane, and an air electrode laminated in order, on a fuel electrode support. The electrolyte membrane includes the proton ion conductor.
