PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing medicinal herb materials as active ingredients for preventing and treating brain diseases is provided to protect cells from cytotoxicity due to hippocampus H_2O_2, to recover reduced memory, and to block hippocampus injury due to alcohol. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating brain diseases contains Acer tegmentosum Max, Alnus japonica Cortex, Taraxaci Herba, Cirsii Japonici Herba, Xanthii Fructus, Puerariae Flos, Hovenia Dulcis Thunb., and Puerariae Radix as active ingredients. A health food for preventing and treating brain diseases contains one or more medicinal herb materials selected from the group consisting of Aucklandiae radix, Amomi fructus, Phragmitis rhizoma, and Raphani semen. A method for manufacturing a pill formulation with brain cell protection activity comprises: a step of pulverizing Acer tegmentosum Max, Alnus japonica Cortex, Taraxaci Herba, Cirsii Japonici Herba, Xanthii Fructus, Puerariae Flos, Hovenia Dulcis Thunb., and Puerariae Radix and mixing; a step of mixing with 500-800 parts by weight of honey and kneading; a step of making the dough in a pill form with a diameter of 1-2 cm; and a step of drying the pill.
