PURPOSE: An SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card control device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to insert an SIM card into the portable terminal including a plurality of communication units.;CONSTITUTION: A GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication) unit(120) and a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) communication unit(130) execute communication via different communication networks. Each of the SIM card socket units(160,170) inserts the SIM card of the corresponding communication unit. A first switch unit(140) or a second switch unit connects the corresponding communication unit to the SIM card of the corresponding communication unit.
