PURPOSE: A portable terminal and an operation method thereof are provided to offer a user interface for a three-dimensional image based on a proximity distance between a pointer and a display unit.;CONSTITUTION: A display unit(151) displays a stereoscopic three-dimensional image. A proximity sensing module detects a proximity state of a pointer for an overlapped area of two or more three-dimensional objects displayed on the display unit. The proximity sensing module calculates a proximity distance between the pointer and the display unit.
