PURPOSE: A refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to reduce defrosting time by defrosting frost with a defrosting heater after melting the frost in an evaporator using hot gas in advance.;CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a compressor(110), a condenser(120), a step valve(130), a decompression device(140), and an evaporator(150). The compressor compresses a refrigerant. The condenser condenses the refrigerant passing through the compressor. The step valve controls the flow of the refrigerant passing through the condenser. The decompression device makes the refrigerant passing through the step valve in low temperature and low pressure state. The evaporator evaporates the refrigerant passing through the decompression device. A hot gas line(141) is extended from the step valve to a passage between the decompression device and the evaporator.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2013
