PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to easily improve response characteristics without using a manufacturing apparatus of a large scale, and to give a significantly large pre-tilt stability (a high orientation stability) to a liquid crystal molecule. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device has 'a pair of alignment layers(22,32) provided at an opposite surface side of a pair of substrates(20,30)' and 'a liquid crystal layer(40) including a liquid crystal molecule having a negative dielectric anisotropy provided between the pair of alignment layers'. At least one of the pair of alignment layers includes 'a compound cross-linked with a polymer compound having a cross-linking functional group as a side chain', a pre-tilt is given to the liquid crystal molecule by using the cross-linked compound, and at least one compound represented by Formula 101: CH_(4-n)(R^1)_n or Formula 102: (R^2)_m-A-(X)_p is included in the liquid crystal layer.
