PURPOSE: A biomarker for assessing ecotoxicity of silver nanoparticles is provided to assess ecotoxicity of novel silver nanoparticles with the biomarker obtained from midge, which is an indicator species of which the sequence information is not clarified, and to be able to contribute to preparing for future remedial measures as the biomarker is able to be usefully applicable to accurately determine the ecotoxicity contamination generated by silver nanoparticles. CONSTITUTION: A biomarker for assessing ecotoxicity of silver nanoparticles includes at least one midge originated gene selected from the group consisting of the base sequence of sequence number 1 to 53. A DNA chip for assessing ecotoxicity of silver nanoparticles includes at least one midge originated gene selected from the group consisting of the base sequence of sequence number 1 to 53. A method of detecting the presence of silver nanoparticles in a sample comprises: a step of exposing midge to a sample assumed to be polluted by silver nanoparticles and isolating RNA from the midge; a step of synthesizing cDNA using the isolated RNA as a template; a step of hybridizing with cDNA by contacting the synthesized cDNA with the DNA chip; a step of detecting the hybridization between the DNA chip and cDNA; and a step of comparing the detected hybridization with positive control.
