PURPOSE: A mobile terminal having a function of adjusting intensity of illuminance and a method of adjusting intensity of illuminance are provided to detect intensity of illuminance outside of the mobile terminal and adjust the intensity of illuminance through a separate illuminance control screen when the intensity of illuminance is less than reference illuminance.;CONSTITUTION: A control unit (110) detects an illumination intensity outside of a mobile terminal. If the detected illumination intensity is less than a reference illumination intensity, the control unit sets a partial region of a screen provided by a display unit as a illuminance control screen. The control unit adjust the illumination intensity outside of the mobile terminal by changing an image displayed on the illuminance control screen. The control unit extracts an image brightness corresponding to an image obtained through a camera.
