PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for measuring an oxidation rate in a diesel particulate filter using a carbon dioxide sensor and a method for regenerating the diesel particulate filter according to the thereof are provided to accurately obtain the residual amount of exhaust by measuring the oxidation rate and the amount of remaining non carbon materials in real time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring an oxidation rate using a CARBON DIOXIDE sensor in a diesel particulate filter comprises a diesel oxidation catalyst (3), a first carbon dioxide sensor (7a), a second carbon dioxide sensor (7b), and a control unit. The diesel oxidation catalyst is installed at upstream of a diesel particulate filter (4). The first carbon dioxide sensor is installed between the diesel particulate filter and the diesel oxidation catalyst in order to measure the density of carbon dioxide. The second carbon dioxide sensor is installed at the end of the diesel particulate filter in order to measure the density of carbon dioxide after the carbon dioxide passes through the diesel particulate filter The control unit calculates the oxidation rate of exhaust gas using information on the density of carbon dioxide which is measured by the second carbon dioxide sensor.
