PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting a signal in a wireless communication system based on a cognitive radio scheme are provided to detect a television signal in a wireless channel using statistical characteristics of wireless signals and a normality test method. CONSTITUTION: A normality test unit (100) calculates a non-normality distribution degree of a target signal in a frequency, and calculates a normality test statistic using the calculated non-normality distribution degree. A signal detection unit (200) determines whether a signal to be detected exists or not using the normality test statistic. The normality test unit includes a discrete Fourier transform unit and a calculation unit. The calculation unit calculates the normality test statistic using an output value of a discrete Fourier transformation, which is outputted by the discrete Fourier transform unit.
