PURPOSE: An ethane-1,2-diol producing microorganism and a method for producing ethane-1,2-diol using the same are provided to effectively produce ethane-1,2-diol from D-xylose. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing transformed E.coli with ethane-1,2-diol productivity from D-xylose comprises the steps of: knocking out D-xylose isomerase gene (xylA) of genome DNA in E.coli; and transforming the E.coli with an expression vector containing D-xylose dehydrogenase gene (cxylB). A method for producing ethane-1,2-diol from D-xylose comprises the steps of: culturing the transformed E.coli in a medium containing D-xylose and biosynthesizing ethane-1,2-diol; and collecting ethane-1,2-diol from the culture.
