PURPOSE: A touch pattern-based touch screen device and a control method thereof are provided to rapidly input an emergency command at once by combining touch patterns in various parts of the hand.;CONSTITUTION: An area calculation unit (161) receives vertical length and horizontal width data of a touch pattern from a touch pattern detection unit (120) and calculates an area of the touch pattern. An area comparison unit (162) compares the area of the touch pattern with a threshold area. If the area of the touch pattern is smaller than the threshold area, a length comparison unit compares the vertical length with the threshold vertical length. If the vertical length is greater than the threshold area, a width comparison unit compares the horizontal width with the threshold vertical width.
