PURPOSE: A high capacity wind power generator and a control method thereof are provided to consistently control the variation of output using a battery connected to a DC link because a system connected power converter is needed for power reduction due to change in the output by the change in wind power. CONSTITUTION: A high capacity wind power generator comprises a generator (110), a first converter (130), a DC link (140), a battery control unit (150), and a second converter (170). The generator supplies power which is converted into electric energy from kinetic energy of a blade which is rotated by wind power. The first converter outputs by converting an alternating current (AC) voltage, which is inputted power through the generator, into a direct current (DC) voltage. The DC link supplies the DC voltage by being connected with the first converter. The battery control unit is connected with the DC link, and charges an installed battery with the DC voltage in the DC link as an electrical energy or discharges the battery which is charged with the DC voltage, depending on the power outputted to an electrical power system. One side of the second converter is connected to the DC link and the other side is connected to the battery control unit, and the second converter converts the DC voltage, which is supplied from at least one between the DC link and the battery control unit, into the AC voltage in order to supply the voltage to the electrical power system.
