De-interlacing Apparatus Using Weight Based on Wiener Filter and Method of Using the Same

PURPOSE: A de-interlacing apparatus capable of interpolating a pixel by giving a wiener filter based weighting and a method thereof are provided to improve an image quality by reducing the deterioration of a screen caused by the wrong detection of the directionality of an edge. CONSTITUTION: A candidate pixel value generator produces each pixel value corresponding to the directionality of an edge shown in different diagonal P, Q directions and a vertical V direction around a pixel which needs an interpolation. A pixel interpolation unit applies a computed weighting by the use of a wiener filter to each candidate pixel value. The pixel interpolation unit interpolates a pixel by the weighted sum of the candidate pixel value on which the weighting is applied.
