Method and apparatus for processing data to recognise a IEEE1394 AV/c device connected to DLNA network as a UPnP device

A data processing method and a data processing apparatus are provided to improve a mutual compatibility between the IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 1394 AV/C device and the DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance) network by enabling the IEEE 1394 AV/C to operate as a UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) device, even when a UPnP-supportable middleware is not installed in the IEEE 1394 AV/C device. A data processing apparatus includes a DLNA network interface(6010), an UPnP-IEEE 1394 process module(6011), a command dictionary(6030), a packet generator module(6031), an IEEE 1394 AV/C(Audio and Video Control) module(6021), and an IEEE 1394 interface(6020). The UPnP-IEEE 1394 process module is connected to the DLNA network interface and generates an IEEE 1394 AV device description. The command dictionary stores an IEEE 1394 command corresponding to a request action from the DLNA network. The packet generator module generates a packet corresponding to the IEEE 1394 command and outputs the result. The IEEE 1394 AV/C module receives the packet command, transmits the packet command to the IEEE 1394 device, and receives a response to the packet command.
