PURPOSE: A method and device for detecting faults in a gear box using vibration signals are provided to perform error diagnosis and classification based on vibration signals of a gear in order to monitor a wind power generator. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting faults in a gear box using vibration signals comprises following steps. Vibration signals are inputted(S10). Texton signals are converted(S20). Features are extracted by SIFT algorithm(S30). Texton is manufacture in advance(S40). Errors in the gear box are detected(S50). The vibration signals detected from a sensor are inputted at the step, S10. The inputted vibration signals are converted into 2D texton image signals at the step, S20. The Features are extracted using SIFT algorithm based on the converted image signals at the step, S30. The texton dictionary is manufactured based on the extracted features at the step, S40. The errors in the gear box are diagnosed and detected based on the texton dictionary at the step, S50.
