PURPOSE: A method for classifying liver segment using vascular structure information of portal vein and an apparatus thereof are provided to implement more objective and accurate reading, by automating the reading method. CONSTITUTION: Three-dimensional chest volume data is acquired (S210). Route tree is generated by using a Euclidian distance map (S220). End point, branching point and skeleton of liver vein are extracted using level set (S230). The position of the extracted branching point is corrected (S240). Liver segment is classified by using the branching pattern structure (S260).
